Oaxaca State is located in the South-eastern region of Mexico; it borders on the North with Veracruz and Puebla, Chiapas on the East, Guerrero on the West and the Pacific Ocean on the South.   Then there are the festivals . . . and Oaxaca doesn't just do famous ones like the "Day of the Dead" like no other, but they seem to have an especially long list of festivals, celebrations and holidays that give them another excuse to take time off work and party. So the odds that you will find something going on while you are here is good.
One of the most valued experiences in Oaxaca is visiting the various Indian villages where the wares sold in the local Mercado are made by local artisans.  Oaxaca is considered one of the richest states in Mexico, for its expressions of culture and history and for its mix of prehispanic treasures and colonial patrimony, as well as for its music, dance, painting, traditions, and culinary arts. Oaxaca's scenery is marked by nine spectacular bays along its Pacific coast, whose beach paradises contrast beautifully with the rivers, hillsides, and valleys inland. But more than anything, Oaxaca is enriched by its charming people.
